Matthew 6:33-34
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
God gives us one day at a time because that is enough. He gives us our daily bread because that is enough. God, in His infinite wisdom, though He is outside of time, has given us time, smaller increments of a larger whole, so that we are not overwhelmed by all that lies in front of us. God is able to handle all of eternity at once, but we are much more limited. Today is sufficient for us to be concerned about and to consider, to work, to eat, to live. Tomorrow will come or it won’t, and if it does, we can handle what it brings without worrying about the next day.
Seeking God and trusting Him day by day is all that He expects of us. When we try to do more than that, we are living outside of what He intended our lives to look like. The manna in the wilderness that He provided for the children of Israel was limited to one day’s portion. And though He had enough to give them all they would need for the entire 40 years all at once, He wanted them to trust that He would give it every morning. He wants to prove His faithfulness to us. He wants us to focus on the right things and to have a right perspective on the things that we need in this life.
Be willing to let go of tomorrow and all of its worries and cares, potential problems or even blessings that may come. Live where you are right now with a focus and attention on God and what He is doing in your life. Trust Him completely with all of your needs and believe that He will provide again. Believe He is faithful, know He is good, and leave tomorrow for tomorrow.
