Revelation 22:16-17
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Imagine being in one of the seven churches and receiving this letter from John and reading about all of the things that would come to pass. What would they have thought? How would they have responded? And now, as the world edges closer and closer to the events described in this book, how do we respond?
The purpose of Scripture and prophecy is to point people to God, to Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. Truly our only hope is in Him. From the sin of Adam until the end of time and every age in between, everyone born into this world has needed a redeemer. And the message has always been, “Come.” Come, weary sinner, to the foot of the cross. Come and acknowledge your sins and the Savior who died for them. Come to a God of mercy whose arms are open wide to receive His wayward children back home. Come, you thirsty. Come, you empty. Come, you needy, and find all that you need in Him. Come, you dying, hell-bound sinner, and receive the gift of life. Be spared an eternal death and receive a free pass into the paradise of your heavenly Father.
The events of this book are as true as if they had already happened. They are written, and so they will certainly come to pass. There is a judgment day. There is a penalty for sin. There is a lake of fire for those without Christ. But there is a glorious life for those merely willing to trust in Him. The message has been proclaimed. Down through the ages God has spoken to this world, and His final message is this: Come to the well of living water and thirst no more.
