John 9:30-39
The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
A man born blind receives his sight, and the first thing he has to deal with on that glorious day is this inquisition by the Pharisees. He can finally see, but what he is seeing are the ugliest parts of people as they sit there in their self-righteousness judging others and making claims they had no right to make.
The Pharisees would cast this man out, but Jesus would receive him. They accuse him of sin, but Jesus had already said that he was not blind due to any sin. Instead he would be used as a living, breathing, powerful example of an important truth that Jesus was trying to convey. One of His purposes in this world was to open the eyes of the blind, for people trapped by sin and self and Satan to see the light and to believe on Christ for salvation. But those who think they know so much, especially about God, are actually blind to the truth.
Don’t believe or receive the world’s assessment of you and your life. They are often judgmental, cruel, and wrong about who you are. Believe instead what Jesus says about you and your life. Jesus said this man was not a sinner who deserved his blindness. Jesus said this man would be blind no longer. Jesus said this man could believe on the Son of God and be saved. Jesus says to you that all who are weary may come, that all who are blind may see, that all who have sinned can be saved, that all who are lost may be found. Take Him at His word. Look to Him and His truth. And keep your opened eyes upon your gracious and merciful Lord and Savior.
