Abundant Blessing

Luke 6:38
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

We are not only to give, but we are to give generously, for that is how God gives. When we deserved nothing, He gave us everything. And if we apply that same principle in our lives, we will be used by God to bless others, and yet we will also be blessed. God wants to overflow our lives with blessings. He wants to pack as much into us as He can. But the only way to make room to be filled with all that He would give to us is to first give of ourselves.

When we think of giving, let’s not think only of money or material things, but things like love and patience and kindness. Let us give love generously, give kindness generously, give everything we have generously. How can we be stingy with grace when God’s grace toward us is boundless? How can we withhold love from others when God loved the worst version of ourselves that we ever were? How dare we hoard and store up and stockpile any of these things to dole out sparingly when Jesus Christ gave up everything for us, gave His life for us?

God loves a generous heart because it is part of His own character to be generous. He goes above and beyond. He does more than we can expect or imagine. He gives abundantly. And He wants us to imitate this characteristic. And when it becomes a part of us, when it is second nature to be generous and give abundantly to others, we will be enriched by God in ways we could have never imagined. It could just be that God has given to us what we have specifically so that He can use us to bless someone else with it, so let’s not hinder His work by keeping it for ourselves, but experience the joy of being a blessing.

Any time we give, no matter what it is we’re giving, let us be generous. It might be scary sometimes to give until it hurts, to make a true sacrifice. But our God is always faithful to provide when we have a selfless attitude about sharing what He’s given to us. When we’re truly giving selflessly, we won’t worry about what we’re going to get in return, but God will fill our cup to overflowing. And though we may never be rich in money or possessions, we will be rich in the priceless blessings of God, for we will find peace and joy and contentment in Him that is worth far more than anything else we could gain.
