Preaching Christ

2 Corinthians 4:5
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

We preach not ourselves. We are not giving people the opportunity to trust in men. There is no salvation there and hardly any hope. Men do not have power to forgive sin. Man’s grace is limited. Man’s mercy is often temperamental. Men’s faults are many and their weaknesses can be exposed. But we preach Christ Jesus and His worthy name. He does have the power to forgive sin, and only through Him is salvation. His grace extends beyond our reach and our comprehension, and His mercy is free for all. He is perfect in every way, almighty and infinitely wise. His strength never fails and His love never ends.

So may our words and our actions preach Christ to those who see us and those who will hear. Though we’re not all preachers, we all live a life before a watching world. We all talk to other people. We all interact with people in a way that can impact their lives by pointing them toward Christ or away from Him. So let’s not promote ourselves or our own agenda, but bring glory to God by telling those around us what Christ has done for us and what He can do for them.

As willing servants, may we go out into the world and bring that message of hope with us everywhere we go. May we help people to understand that there is no hope in any other but Jesus Christ. There is no salvation through anyone else than Jesus and the blood He shed for us. There is no love greater than the one demonstrated through God giving us His Son. There is no light coming from any other source than the Son Himself. And may we spend ourselves to take that light and reflect it into the darkness all around us.

Do we truly understand the greatness that is contained in the person of Jesus Christ? Do we appreciate all that He has done for us and desire to give all for Him? If so, then out of grateful hearts, may we proclaim His wonderful name. Out of love and obedience, may we go forward wherever He sends us to whomever He would allow us to share the truth of Christ. May He be magnified in everything we do not so our names are known, but so that others may come to know Jesus for themselves.
