Seek Him Early

Luke 21:38
And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.

Let us, too, come early in our morning, at the first of our day, to hear Jesus speak to us. Let us seek Him in His temple, sit at His feet, and listen as He speaks to our hearts. Let’s share with Him our burdens, unload those weights from off our minds and focus on Him. Let’s sing His praises and offer our sacrifices of thanksgiving as we meditate upon all the blessings He’s shared with us. Let’s seek His wisdom and His will so we can fulfill His purpose for our lives. Let’s find the words of comfort and encouragement that we need as He whispers His love to us.

Jesus did not give up His role as an eager teacher and instructor, but He is ever available to share with those who pursue Him. So let’s open His Word and explore the truth that He has given to us. Let’s give the freshest, newest part of our day to Him before our minds become cluttered with the cares of daily life. Let’s allow His Word to soak into our minds and influence the course of our day. Seeking Him early will allow Him the whole day to work in our hearts, and the help that we find there may be just what we need to carry us through.

We never know what a day may bring, where we may have to go, what we might have to face. But spending time with Jesus equips us for anything that may come our way. It strengthens our defenses against the evil one and his servants who try to tempt us and distract us and lead us astray. A fresh truth every morning keeps the lies of the devil and this world at bay. A word of encouragement strengthens us to face the storms and trials that may come. A sure promise gives us the faith to keep going, to press on, to endure.

When we hear Jesus speak to us so gently and sweetly, His voice echoes in our minds throughout the day, encouraging us, guiding us, giving us wisdom. What we find in the pages of Scripture each morning equips us to be used by Him during the day. Reading of His love encourages us to love others that day. Reading of His grace allows us to be gracious to others. Seeing Him serve and give encourages us to do the same. Let us purpose in our hearts to go to Him as early as we can in our day so that we can be prepared as best we can to honor him all day and every day.
