Romans 8:32
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
We often look at the death of Christ and His sacrifice from the perspective of Jesus. We see how He left the glory of heaven to be born in a lowly manger, to walk on the Earth in a human body, to go to the cross and suffer, bleed, and die for our sins. We try to picture Him hanging there on Calvary, try to imagine the anguish and suffering as He was beaten so severely. We see Him in Gethsemane praying for the cup to pass from Him but accepting the Father’s will. We see Him surrendering His life and willingly giving it for our sins.
But there is another side to that story. There is the Father in heaven who sent His Son to us. The Father’s will worked out this wonderful plan of salvation, but it meant He had to give Jesus to us. It meant He had to watch Him suffer and turn His face from Jesus as He bled upon the cross. It was God the Father’s sacrifice, too. Almighty God delivered up the precious person of Jesus Christ. We know on a small scale what it is to be separated from our loved ones. We know the pain that distance can hold when we can’t be near those we love most. But this was the Son of God, part of the whole of the Trinity, set apart for a time so that our sins could be forgiven.
God showed us His love in such a powerful way. He proved how far His love would go. He would hold nothing back from us, not even His own precious Son. He gave the most valuable thing He could give. So how can we ever doubt that God will give us anything else? It would hurt a parent to give up the child they love. It would be a huge sacrifice to offer a son to die for someone else. Anything else seems so small in comparison.
But God delights to bless His children. He desires to fully supply all of our needs. He counts it a joy to give to us abundantly and bless us in many ways. Oh, the tenderness of our Father’s heart. Just as He loves Christ, He loves us. Let’s go to Him, then. Let’s not deny Him the position of Father that He holds in our lives. Our Father is who we can turn to with every burden, every problem, every difficulty, every struggle. He longs to be involved intimately in every part of our lives, but we must let Him be. Let’s give Him that honor. Let’s trust Him to provide and rely on Him alone, for He will freely give us all that we need.
