Psalm 116:2
Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.
No one likes to feel ignored or like they aren’t being heard. Sometimes people even go to extremes to make their opinions known or spread whatever message they endorse. There are billboards, blogs, and videos for people trying to make a statement or share their thoughts and feelings. But maybe sometimes in our personal lives we feel like no one is listening. When others around us are distracted and self-focused, we can call upon the one who is always there to listen.
God inclines His ear to us. He leans in close and waits for us to pour out our hearts to Him. He wants us to talk with Him about our trials and fears and struggles. He wants us to share our joys and sorrows. He wants our praises and our offerings of thanksgiving. When we pray, we’re not shouting at an empty sky, we’re having a heart-to-heart conversation with our loving Father. In good times and bad, in challenges and victories, in sweet joy and turmoil, God is there to hear us, to listen to us. Every silent prayer uttered from a broken heart ascends to our Father, and He turns His heart toward us. He is available and ever-present.
Our praises can rise to the heights of heaven, and in the midst of all the glory and splendor sits a God on His throne who is interested in us. No matter how small we may ever feel, our big God’s presence can surround us. He will come close. He will hear us. He will help us. He will touch us. If no one else was ever there for us and all we had was God, that would be enough.
And since we know God listens, since we know He hears us any time we cry out, we can, like the psalmist, call upon Him as long as we live. He will never grow tired of us or tell us to be quiet. He is faithful to us. And we can grow in Him through a lifelong fellowship of deep conversation. Let’s commit in our hearts to cultivate a sincere, intimate prayer life with our Father. Let’s remember that God delights in us. He treasures us. He loves us with an almost incomprehensible, powerful love. And we can share with Him our every need, sure in the knowledge that He will hear us.
