Not Forgotten

Psalm 136:23
Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever:

God’s eye is ever upon us. He has not taken His eyes from us for even a second since the moment our lives began. He created us so He could enjoy our fellowship. He knows what weak and frail creatures we are, how utterly hopeless we are without Him and His blessed intervention in our lives. He just wants us to recognize what He already knows about us.

God did not leave sinful man without a Savior, just as He did not leave Israel in bondage in Egypt. He did not leave them in a perpetual wilderness. He did not leave them in the hands of their enemies. And God will not leave us in our low estate. He does not forget that we are down here struggling, for we never leave His thoughts. He is ever thinking on us, considering our situation, working out His plan, moving pieces around in our lives to arrange things just how He wants them to be. And though His ways are beyond our understanding and things happen to us we might never choose for ourselves, we can always trust that how God works in our lives is what is best for us.

God has an intricate plan being worked out in His infinite mind. It may take years to work out all the details, but we are not forgotten in the meantime. And no matter the problem, God offers a solution. As all mankind groaned for a Redeemer, finally Jesus appeared and fulfilled God’s plan of salvation. The Israelites toiled in Egypt for hundreds of years before being set free by God himself. Sarah longed for a child for decades before giving birth to Isaac. Joseph suffered through many trials before rising to the top in Egypt. David fled from Saul before becoming king of Israel. Today we wait, toiling all the while as we look for Christ’s glorious return.

So, whether it is simply our feeble condition as humans or in the depths of our own personal despair, we need not fear that God will forget about us or abandon us. No matter how deep the trial or how far the fall, God is there working on our behalf, in His way, with His perfect timing. As the precious children of our heavenly Father, we are always on His mind, never forgotten, no matter how low our estate. And in His power, we will rise up to experience all that He has prepared for us.
