Nehemiah 6:9
For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.
What is our area of need at this moment? Has our great enemy desired that our hands be weakened? Then let us pray for God to strengthen our hands. Has our enemy attacked our faith and mocked the smallness of it? Then let us ask God to increase our faith. Has our heart been attacked by sin and its devastating effects? Then let us pray for our heart to be strengthened and healed from those wounds. Or maybe our weakness is a particular sin or a bad habit. Maybe it’s anger or unkindness or pride. Whatever it may be, all we need to do is simply bring it to God in prayer.
Whatever our weak point is, wherever we are most vulnerable to discouragement or sin, whatever bothers us the most or hinders us the most, let’s take those things specifically by name to our Father. Let’s counter specific attacks from Satan with specific prayers to God. Let’s identify those things, if they’re not loudly pointed out by our accuser, that we most need help with and lay them out before the Lord and seek His help.
There was no need for Nehemiah and the people to fear because he knew that God would hear his prayer and answer it. He knew that God had led him to the wall and charged him with the task of rebuilding, and so he knew the work would be accomplished, problems would be overcome, and critics would be silenced. In the same way, we don’t have to listen to those negative voices, whether they come from without or within, because our God is on our side, ready to work on our behalf as we seek Him. We don’t have to be afraid and we don’t have to give up.
Whatever God has given us to do, let’s go forward in that in His power, trusting Him every step of the way. When problems arise, we can pray for Him to work in those situations according to His will. Let’s remember that we can ask God for help in any area of our lives, and when we realize a particular weakness, we can pray about it specifically and trust that He will deliver us in His way and in His time.
