Our Overseer

Genesis 41:40-41
Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

Joseph went from a pit to a palace, but his journey was so much more than that. He was nearly killed, sold as a slave, falsely accused, abandoned in prison. But through all of that, Jacob’s favorite son would once again rise to a place of favor in Egypt as he is placed in varying degrees of authority—first over one house, then the prison, then all of Egypt. Little by little, he became ruler over all that Pharaoh had. He rose to a place of prominence, governing wisely with foresight and compassion.

Similarly, in our lives, we must surrender and yield to Jesus little by little every area until He becomes the overseer and governor of our lives. We should entrust all that we have and all that we are to Him and acknowledge His authority over us and our affairs. Joseph proved himself worthy of Pharaoh’s trust, and isn’t Jesus so much more worthy of this position? As we truly realize and understand what He went through for us, to submit to Him should be an easy decision. Let’s examine the kingdom of our hearts and see whether there is something we’ve neglected to surrender to Jesus and then prayerfully commit into His hands anything we find that we are holding back.

Jesus is wise and can guide our lives and give us good counsel. He offers us His words of life and the only true path to righteousness. He is under the Father’s authority to continue His work and build His kingdom through His people. He abundantly supplies and meets every need that we have and seeks our best in the process. And He rules not with the iron fist of a dictator, but with a heart of love and compassion, an endless supply of grace and mercy. He can help us to manage our affairs and make the best decisions. He demonstrates the way we are to live and work and serve and enables us through His Spirit to follow His example.

Joseph had done the impossible by interpreting Pharaoh’s dream when no one else could. And Jesus has given us the gift of salvation when we had no other answer or hope. After all that He’s done for us, how could we bow to a lesser master? He served and obeyed God unto death, and now He sits at the Father’s right hand. He is fit for the position of overseer. He deserves that role in our lives. We would be wise to place everything into His capable hands.
