Taking a Leap of Faith

Acts 14:8-10
And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked: The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

Most of us who have the ability to walk probably can’t imagine not being able to walk, nor can we remember those unsteady days of trying to learn to walk when we were small children. It’s something we’ve always known, and so maybe we take it for granted. But let’s try to imagine the joy this crippled man must have felt when he was finally able to walk. He was able to give glory to God by the simple act of leaping and walking, something he had never done before.

Maybe there’s something in our lives that we’ve never done before. But a simple heart of faith can allow God to work in us, and the power of God in our lives can lead us to do something we’ve never done before, maybe something we were never able to do before. What an amazing experience it is to step out with faith and accomplish something for God we never thought possible. What an amazing chance to glorify God in our lives.

God’s vast power can enable us to do great things or venture out in small, simple ways. If God has laid something on our heart, let’s not be afraid to try something new. Perhaps it is a unique chance to impact someone else’s life in a special way or enrich our own walk with the Lord. It might take us to a faraway land as a missionary or lead us to simply sing a song from our heart. Maybe we find the courage to witness to someone we never have before or take part in a ministry for which we felt inadequate. God can work on our hearts in a multitude of ways, so let’s be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit and be willing to step up to anything He asks of us.

Let’s remember that nothing is impossible with God and look to Him to enable us in new ways we never thought possible, for His honor and glory, and we may also receive a blessing and benefit, as well. Like the crippled man walking for the first time in his life, we may take new steps on an exciting journey of faith that will take us to place we could have only imagined. Let’s live with the kind of faith that can take us somewhere new or allow us to do something we’ve never done before.
